The
City of Melbourne Bourke Street Mall re-furbishment.
The model was used for design and review of public
space, analysis of designs in regard to occupational
health and safety, options for layout and designs,
testing height and configurations of street furniture
and services access, consultation with stakeholders
and general public, presentation and promotion
of concepts and designs.
Workshop
sessions were held with Councilors, building owners
and operators, and operational managers. Preparations
are proceeding for a second stage in the design
process that will include further immersive workshops
as well as making use of our video and DVD production
services.
What
the clients say:
"RMIT's Virtual Reality Centre worked
with us in late 2002 to design and consult with
the public on a concept for the revitalisation
of Bourke Street Mall. I cannot now imagine how
we could have done it without a three-dimensional
virtual realisation of the Mall. As an outdoor
urban space of importance to so many people for
a variety of reasons it was incredibly important
to understand, design and communicate it as a
dynamic and programmable space. The technology
allowed it to be "experienced" by the designers,
stakeholders and the public who would use. This
could not have been done in two dimensions."
