City
of Maribyrnong : Model of Central Footscray activity
centre and development proposals.
Termed
a "skyline" study, the Laboratory has been able
to procedurally build the digital model from Council's
GIS data bases; this was used in a series of workshop
viewings to test a number of height and bulk scenarios,
and to test several planning applications.
The
Model is now being further developed to test a
number of scenarios for the Transit Cities project.
It is simple and cost effective to test a range
of built form options on any site, and to be able
to move around them in "real time" and experience
a close to full scale effect within our Virtual
Reality Centre theatre.
What
the clients say…
"The
Urban Futures Laboratory has enabled Maribyrnong
City Council to get so much more from our existing
GIS. The Footscray Model, which has been procedurally
generated from our GIS, enables Council and other
stakeholders to visualize, and discuss in an informed
manner, the possible futures for Footscray specifically
and the City of Maribyrnong generally. The model
has proved to be a valuable tool in understanding
and assessing major development proposals and
in developing built form policy. Council and proponents
have been able to 'place' proposals within the
virtual Footscray and visualize in three dimensions
the city's future."
